Summary Turbine Surface Technologies Limited are looking for a Manufacturing engineering apprentice to join their team. Their dedicated engineering team is an integral part of the business that provides engineering support to the operations teams. This is an ideal opportunity for a candidate to start their engineering career. Your start and finish times including your shift pattern will be determined by the employing company. 37 hours 30 minutes a week Start date Monday 1 September 2025 Duration 4 years Positions available 1 Work Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience. What you'll do at work Role & responsibilities: The Engineering Apprenticeship Scheme at TSTL consists of the following placements in the engineering teams: Process Engineering Product Engineering Tooling Engineering (CAD) During each rotation you will work closely with the department, supporting both day-to-day tasks and completing short projects whilst learning about the area. This will include tasks such as writing technical documents, statistical analysis of process data, problem investigation and resolution and tooling design and control. By utilising these skills you will provide technical support which will help resolve key business issues. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills. College or training organisation THE UNIVERSITY OF SHEFFIELD Your training course Manufacturing engineer (degree) (level 6) Understanding apprenticeship levels (opens in new tab) What you'll learn Course contents Foundation Stage: Complying with statutory regulations and stringent organisational safety requirements Foundation Stage: Producing components using hand fitting, fabrication and joining techniques Foundation Stage: Producing Computer Aided Design (CAD) models (drawings) using a CAD system Foundation Stage: Preparing and using lathes, milling and other general or specialist machines and high tech equipment Foundation Stage: Preparing and proving Computer Numeric Control programmes Foundation Stage: Using computer software packages to assist with and evaluate engineering activities Foundation Stage: Producing and managing engineering project plans Foundation Stage: Producing assemblies using a wide range of materials and techniques Development Team: Project management and scheduling engineering activities Development Team: Securing appropriate resources and managing budgets and resources Development Team: Implementing, monitoring and evaluating engineering processes Your training plan You will study on a Level 6 Manufacturing Engineer degree apprenticeship on a Maintenance Technology pathway. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Degree Level 6 standard. During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study. Requirements Essential qualifications GCSE in: English Language (grade 4) Mathematics (grade 4) Let the company know about other relevant qualifications and industry experience you have. They can adjust the apprenticeship to reflect what you already know. Skills Communication skills Attention to detail Organisation skills Problem solving skills Analytical skills Other requirements You will need ONE of the following: A minimum of two A-Levels at grade B or above, including a mathematical-based subject and a science, technology, engineering or an additional mathematics-related subject / An Engineering BTEC Level 3 with at least 120 credits at DM (Distinction Merit) level or above / EAL Diploma in an engineering-based subject at distinction level / Equivalent qualifications such as Technical Levels (T-Levels) at DM or above About this company Established in 2000, Turbine Surface Technologies (TST) is a joint venture between Rolls-Royce and Chromalloy, providing specialist coatings solutions to state-of-the-art gas turbine components. After this apprenticeship Completion of the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships are nationally recognised qualifications which are acknowledged and respected by employers across the world.
