Job Description
Our Aerospace Transmissions Fitter apprenticeship is suited for those who are interested in the practical (hands‑on) elements of engineering.
Over the 4‑year programme you will be trained to become a Mechanical Fitter specialising in the Transmissions equipment. The apprenticeship will start with an induction into Leonardo, followed by a Yeovil College induction. You will combine your time between Yeovil College and work placements at Leonardo Helicopters, increasing your work placements as you move through the years.
Departmental Areas
* Transmissions Fitting – Build and test the aircraft gearboxes (Main, Intermediate and tail gear boxes) both new build and in‑service gear boxes. New build apprentices learn to understand, evaluate and identify potential improvements within the business.
* Repair and Overhaul – In‑service gearboxes are stripped, surveyed on receipt and overhauled.

* Support early careers activities – work as STEM ambassadors in schools, colleges and universities.
Salary
Starting salary: £17,850 per annum. Salary increases as you progress through the programme.
Qualifications
* 4 GCSE grades 4‑9 (or A*-C) in English, Maths and Science (mandatory). Other qualifications as required.
Security Clearance
This role is subject to pre‑employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). Additional Personnel Security Controls such as National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply.
