Job title Civil Quantity Surveyor Location Sheffield / Hybrid Salary or rate £55,000 plus £6,000 Car Allowance Contract type Permanent About the role An exciting opportunity is available for a Civil Quantity Surveyor to join a well established and growing civil engineering contractor delivering high quality infrastructure and groundworks projects across the region. The business works with a diverse portfolio of public and private sector clients and specialises in highways, drainage, earthworks, utilities and large scale civil engineering schemes. The Civil Quantity Surveyor will play a key role in supporting the commercial management of multiple civil engineering projects from tender stage through to final account. This Civil Quantity Surveyor position will focus on cost control, contract administration and financial reporting to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Working as part of a collaborative commercial team, the Civil Quantity Surveyor will contribute to the successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects while supporting junior team members and building strong client relationships. The Civil Quantity Surveyor will work closely with operational teams and senior commercial leaders to ensure strong commercial performance across projects while maintaining compliance with contractual and statutory requirements. Key responsibilities • Take commercial responsibility for multiple civil engineering projects • Manage, train and support members of the commercial team, including providing on the job training for junior staff • Provide commercial and contractual advice to project teams and site staff • Review and draft commercial correspondence related to project delivery • Supply relevant commercial reports and information to senior commercial leadership for review • Monitor contract compliance against statutory and contractual requirements • Ensure all contract correspondence is accurately recorded and logged • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients through regular contact and meetings • Attend commercial meetings relating to multiple projects • Monitor contract costs against agreed budgets using cost and financial reporting systems • Prepare and submit cash flow forecasts when required • Carry out monthly financial reviews and cost value reconciliation on projects • Forecast final project outturn values for cost, sales and margin • Prepare and submit periodic valuations and applications for payment • Ensure client payments and cash collection align with contractual agreements • Oversee the preparation and submission of variations and change management documentation • Maintain accurate variation and change logs • Identify commercial risks and opportunities and support mitigation strategies • Oversee the production, submission and agreement of final accounts • Liaise with the supply chain for procurement, negotiation and placement of subcontract and supplier orders • Monitor certification of subcontract payments and agreement of subcontractor final accounts Skills and experience required Essential • HNC or HND Level 4 in Quantity Surveying or equivalent • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software • Strong numeracy and analytical skills • Minimum of two to three years experience working within a contracting environment • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage with stakeholders and project teams • Customer focused approach with the ability to resolve issues effectively • Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines Desirable • Degree in Quantity Surveying • Knowledge of NEC forms of contract • Experience within the rail sector What is on offer • Competitive salary of £55,000 plus £6,000 car allowance • Up to 25 days holiday plus statutory bank holidays • Hybrid working depending on business needs • Company sick pay • Annual professional subscription costs covered • Excellent training and development opportunities through an internal training team • Paid volunteering days and charity events • Annual flu vaccinations • Employee assistance programmes providing advice and counselling • Access to mental health first aiders • Company pension scheme • Death in service benefit of two times annual salary • Employee referral scheme offering £1,000 per successful hire How to apply If you are an experienced Civil Quantity Surveyor or an ambitious Civil Quantity Surveyor looking to progress your career within a supportive civil engineering environment, this Civil Quantity Surveyor opportunity could be an excellent next step.
