The Role
We are seeking a Health & Safety Assistant to support our Health & Safety Officer in ensuring safe working practices across the factory. This is a hands-on role where you'll gain full training and experience in all aspects of workplace health & safety—from audits and risk assessments to staff engagement and emergency procedures.
As you develop in the role, there will be the opportunity for promotion and career progression within our health & safety team.
Key Responsibilities
Working alongside and supporting the Health & Safety Officer, you will help with:
* Assisting with safety audits and risk assessments across all operational areas (chemical handling, moving machinery, ovens, etc.).
* Supporting compliance with UK HSE legislation and company procedures.
* Helping maintain and update health & safety documentation (procedures, COSHH, training records).
* Assisting with accident investigations, near-miss reporting, and corrective actions.
* Supporting safety initiatives, spot checks, and staff engagement activities.
* Helping coordinate emergency drills, first aid readiness, and evacuation procedures.
What We're Looking For
We are more interested in relevant experience and transferable skills than formal qualifications, as full training will be provided.
Essential:
* Previous experience in a role with health & safety responsibilities, ideally in a factory, manufacturing, or similar environment.
* Good administration and organisational skills.
* Computer literate (Word, Excel).
* Confident communicator with a practical approach.
* Reliable, flexible, and eager to learn.
Desirable (but not required):
* Formal H&S qualifications (NEBOSH / IOSH).
* Experience in audits, risk assessments, or incident investigation.
What We Offer
* Full on-the-job training from our Health & Safety Officer.
* Clear pathway for career development and promotion.
* A chance to make a real impact on workplace safety in a supportive, long-established business.

Pay: £13.50-£15.00 per hour
