Offer description

We’re looking for a proactive and skilled engineer to join our Control Systems team, supporting and enhancing a suite of bespoke, safety‑critical systems that keep our cross‑border infrastructure operating 24/7, 365 days a year.

This is a unique opportunity to work on complex, real‑time operational technologies, from traffic management and fire detection to video surveillance and access control, within a highly regulated, technically advanced environment. Your work will help ensure the safety of our customers, colleagues, and assets every single day.

* Maintain and optimise real-time control systems to ensure maximum availability, integrity, and compliance with safety and security standards.
* Lead and support system upgrades, migrations, and future‑proofing projects, including creating functional specifications and technical documentation.
* Collaborate with Operations, Security, and Engineering teams to investigate incidents, define system changes, and produce reports for internal and external stakeholders.
* Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues promptly to minimise operational disruption.
* Provide second‑line technical support for major outages and complex problems, working with colleagues and suppliers.
* Perform system administration tasks such as backups, security management, and configuration control.
* Deliver training and technical support to engineering, maintenance, and operations teams.
* Supervise subcontractors and consultants, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
* Participate in audits, safety inspections, and manage maintenance support contracts for critical applications.
* Adhere to Health & Safety and operational procedures, reporting incidents and supporting continuous improvement.
* Contribute to a positive and inclusive team culture.

Qualifications and Experience

* Degree in Engineering (electrical, electronic, computer science) or equivalent professional experience.
* Experience in control systems administration, maintenance, or development, ideally in a safety‑critical or transport environment.
* Strong technical skills in operating systems (Windows, Linux), server administration, networking, Active Directory and VMware, and programming.
* Experience in system migration, project delivery, and technical documentation.
* Excellent problem‑solving skills with a proactive, solutions‑focused approach.
* Effective communication and collaboration skills with diverse teams and external partners.
* Fluent in English; French language skills are advantageous.
* Valid driving licence and passport.
* Required to participate in an on‑call rota and meet the required medical standards.

Job type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: Circa £52K, plus an attractive benefits package
