Who we are seeking
We are now seeking an Abnormal Load Escort Driver to join the Sunseeker Transport team, where you will play a vital role in escorting abnormal loads from external suppliers and between our key Sunseeker sites.
In this role, you will be responsible for escorting abnormal loads safely and efficiently, preparing escort vehicles, and assisting drivers in checking the condition of both the vehicle and the load prior to departure. You will maintain regular communication with site personnel and deliver outstanding customer service while ensuring that every load arrives safely and on time.
Based at our Distribution Centre in Upton, Dorset, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our largest production sites and become a valued member of our award-winning workforce. A Day in Life
As a Sunseeker Abnormal Load Escort Driver, you will support the wider transport operation by driving HGV Class 1 vehicles when required and positioning escort vehicles appropriately to warn traffic of oncoming loads. You will be expected to respond effectively to emergencies, incidents, unexpected situations, and breakdowns, always prioritising safety. The role also includes carrying out post-operational checks on escort vehicles and their contents to ensure there are no defects and that all equipment remains in safe working order.
Example responsibilities include:
* Preparing the escort vehicle before use advice of any defects and rectify as required.
* Assisting in loading transport vehicle and securing load
* Checking the condition of transport vehicle and load before departure
* Understanding and complying with movement orders
* Positioning escort vehicle appropriately on the road to warn traffic of oncoming vehicle
* Responding appropriately to emergencies, incidents, unexpected situations and breakdowns
* Carrying out post-operative checks to the escort vehicle/contents and advise of any defects
* Covering driver’s holidays withing stores 3.5T vans / 18T lorry
* Communicating effectively with all third parties
To be considered for this role you should:
* have full clean driving licence, drivers CPC and Tachograph Card
* have HGV class 1 or 2 licence is desirable but not essential
* be experienced in heavy/abnormal load movements
* have good knowledge of the UK road network
* possess excellent communication skills
* display calm approach to adverse situations
* be flexible approach to training
* be reliable and self-motivated, flexible and willing to work hard
