Job Summary
Clinical Engineering Mechanical Services Assistant – support the Mechanical Services Team in commissioning, decommissioning, device maintenance and training. Apply as part of the Clinical Engineering training scheme, progressing through to Technical Inspector.
Responsibilities
* Accept and record repair and service requests in the Trust Medical Devices Database.
* Perform corrective and planned preventive maintenance on a range of medical devices under close supervision.
* Conduct acceptance, performance and safety checks on new equipment following written instructions.
* Maintain service schedules, records and technical documentation in accordance with the Quality System.
* Rotate through all Clinical Engineering Teams to broaden experience and develop competencies.
* Support continual improvement of Clinical Engineering processes through participation in Quality System audits and as an auditor when required.
* Order appropriate spare parts, complying with the Quality System and understanding the stock control system.
* Ensure personal and general test equipment is calibrated and maintained to professional standards, taking responsibility for all tools and equipment within care.
* Participate in group meetings and briefings with the Head of Clinical Engineering and others as required.
* Generate income for the Trust through external customer contract work.
* Assist other colleagues within Clinical Engineering and the Medical Equipment Library as required.
* Maintain workshop facilities in a clear, well‑ordered state, keeping mechanical workshops, store areas and lease vehicles tidy.
* Take appropriate precautions in the work environment, handling mechanical, optical, electrical, radiological, biological and chemical hazards.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
* Interest in Engineering – Mechanical/Electro‑Mechanical or Electronic.
* Experience of Team Working.
* 5 GCSE passes at Grade C/4 or above to include English, Mathematics and Science or equivalent.
Desirable
* Mechanical engineering experience.
* ECDL or CLAIT qualification.
* Full UK Driving License (manual) or working towards.
* Experience of working in a customer service environment.
