Power the systems that power the world. We are seeking an experienced High Voltage Authorised Person (HVAP) to join a state:of:the:art data centre supporting business:critical infrastructure in a high:performance, zero:tolerance environment.
As a Data Centre HVAP Technician, you will act as a key guardian of electrical safety and operational continuity. Working closely with the Building Engineering Supervisor and Engineering Shift Leader, you will take ownership of high:voltage operations, planned
maintenance, and incident response across critical electrical infrastructure.
This continental shift role offers autonomy, technical diversity, and exposure to advanced mission:critical systems where precision, compliance, and safety are paramount.
Key Responsibilities Critical Engineering and Operations
: Deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across electrical and associated building systems in line with agreed SLAs.
: Act as the site High Voltage Authorised Person, performing switching operations, isolations, and control of high:risk electrical activities.
: Prepare, review, and execute switching schedules, SOPs, and EOPs in accordance with approved Safe Systems of Work (SSOW).
: Respond promptly to BMS alarms and unplanned events, diagnosing faults and restoring services with minimal disruption.
: Maintain system uptime and safeguard the integrity of critical infrastructure.
Safety, Compliance and Control
: Manage and administer the Permit to Work (PTW) system, ensuring all documentation and control measures are correctly implemented.
: Prepare, review, and implement Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
: Maintain evaporative cooling and domestic water systems in compliance with L8 regulations.
: Supervise subcontractors and specialist vendors, ensuring works are delivered safely and in line with statutory and site requirements.
: Maintain strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental legislation.
Operational Support and Reporting
: Support incident management during faults, outages, and emergency scenarios.
: Ensure availability and tracking of critical spares and essential materials.
: Accurately record maintenance activities and technical reports using REALM or equivalent CAFM systems.
: Build strong working relationships with internal teams and client representatives.
: Maintain a safe, professional, and customer:focused working environment.
Development and Continuous Improvement
: Enhance technical capability through structured training and professional development.
: Demonstrate ownership and accountability in maintaining high operational standards.
: Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen safety, compliance, and operational reliability.
Essential Requirements
: Current High Voltage Authorised Person (HVAP) status.
: Up:to:date Wiring Regulations certification.
: NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
: Emergency First Aid at Work certification.
: Proven experience managing faults or incidents within mission:critical or high:availability environments.
: Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation relating to engineering and maintenance operations.
: Excellent communication skills with a professional, confident approach.
: High attention to detail with strong numeracy and literacy skills.
: Self:motivated, dependable, and committed to safe systems of work.
: Ability to work independently and collaboratively under pressure.
: Physically capable of accessing plant areas, including the use of vertical access equipment.
: Flexibility to work continental shift patterns.
Desirable
: Manual Handling certification.
: PASMA and IPAF qualifications.
