Job Overview
We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated candidates to join the Intensive Care teams at Oxford University Hospitals as a consultant/locum post. The role is based at the John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospital sites, covering 34 beds in the general ITU and other critical care areas. No specific additional skill set is required for this application, but enthusiasm and a demonstrated excellence in teaching (particularly advanced ultrasound), management or research will be viewed positively.
Responsibilities
Provide direct care of admissions, lead ward rounds and consultations on critically ill inpatients on wards and in the emergency department. Manage complex clinical problems and work independently in a teaching hospital environment.
Required Qualifications
* CCT in intensive care medicine or equivalent (e.g., GMC Specialist Register in ICM or within six months of achieving CCT at the interview)
* Full registration and licence to practice
* Full driving licence
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
Desirable Qualifications
* FFICM or equivalent
* Postgraduate thesis
* Additional training relevant to ICM (e.g., tertiary trauma care, management, research, POCUS ultrasound, echocardiography; UK teaching hospital ICM experience)
* Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and manage complex clinical problems
* Consultant ICM experience, excellent leadership skills, evidence of leading a clinical team in a teaching hospital
* Effective administrative and time-management skills, training in clinical management
* Evidence of significant contribution to successful teamwork
* Good spoken and written English; highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
* Evidence of leadership within training programmes, professional bodies, research, or other spheres
* Management qualification
* Practical experience in NHS structure management (evidence of systems-based investigation, change management or service development)
* Sub-specialty skills relevant to ICM, specific interests in critical care ultrasound including teaching experience
* Proven ability to communicate in written form (publications, reports), organise and deliver high-quality training
* Evidence of effective and sustained contribution to clinical governance, clinical risk management and clinical audit activities
* Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
* Formal teacher training
* Additional training expertise (simulation, assessment, course development)
* Links to safety training
* Evidence of audit leading to demonstrated and sustained change
* Evidence of completed and published primary or secondary research
* Ability to supervise research
* Research grants and appropriate UK professional registration
