Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Supply SEN Teaching Assistant to join a primary school in Manchester from September. This role involves providing intensive support to pupils with complex special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), ensuring their individual learning and development needs are met in a nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-to-one or small group support to pupils with complex SEND needs
Assist with personal care routines and support pupils’ physical, emotional, and educational needs
Implement personalised learning plans and interventions under the guidance of SENCO and teaching staff
Support communication, social interaction, and behaviour management strategies tailored to individual pupils
Facilitate access to the curriculum through adaptive resources and differentiated approaches
Maintain detailed records of pupil progress and liaise with teachers and specialists as required
Promote the inclusion and wellbeing of pupils within the school community
Adhere to safeguarding policies and support a safe, supportive learning environment
Person Specification:
Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience
Experience working with children with complex SEND, including physical, learning, and behavioural difficulties
Strong understanding of SEND strategies and interventions
Patience, empathy, and a calm approach to challenging situations
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
Desirable Experience:
Previous experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), or other specific learning difficulties
Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or other alternative communication methods
Experience working in a specialist SEND setting or resource base
