Stoke City Football Club of the English Football League is seeking an Academy Medical Lead to support its academy medical operations, primarily based at Clayton Wood Training Ground.
The successful candidate will report to the Academy Technical Director and the first team medical department. They will be responsible for leading, facilitating, and developing physiotherapy services for academy players, as well as promoting and safeguarding the health and wellbeing of all academy players.
Main Responsibilities
1. Update the Academy Technical Director and Professional Development Phase staff daily on rehabilitation stages of injured players to assist in training and game planning.
2. Provide comprehensive medical and physiotherapy services for all academy players from Foundation Phase to U23s.
3. Coordinate physiotherapy and medical coverage for all U9-U23 matches.
4. Implement and coordinate screening and prehabilitation programs for all players.
5. Act as line manager to the Academy Physiotherapists.
6. Liaise with the First Team Head Physiotherapist, Head of Medical, and Sporting Director, providing assistance as needed.
7. Ensure all cardiac screenings comply with EPPP guidelines.
8. Maintain complete Medical Player Performance Records for players graduating from the Academy, in line with EPPP standards.
9. Develop and coordinate an ongoing CPD program for academy medical staff.
10. Collaborate with the Head of Academy Sports Science to implement age-appropriate testing, including medical and physical screening, anthropometric assessments, fitness testing, movement and posture assessments, and maturation measurement.
11. Manage injuries effectively, ensuring clinical audit and accurate documentation meet the club’s commitments to players, coaches, and management.
Key Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
1. Postgraduate qualification in Sports Physiotherapy.
2. Chartered Physiotherapist status.
3. HCPC registration.
4. Experience working with young elite athletes, developing programs for their long-term athletic development.
5. Experience leading and managing a medical department.
6. Proficiency in IT, including Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint.
7. A full, clean driving license is desirable.
This is a full-time position, requiring evening and weekend work as needed.
