Job Advert Do you want to deliver fun bespoke sessions and programmes for schools, community organisations, young people, charities and any other group or club that would like to get outside and sample the wonders of the outdoors? As our Outdoor and Environment Education Officer, you will join our Outdoor Education team that specialises in taking groups of young people and individuals into the great outdoors to enjoy a range of invigorating activities while developing personal skills, team building and having a great time. We are looking for an Outdoor and Environment Education Officer to deliver an environmental education programme to run alongside outdoor educational activities delivered to schools, colleges and other young people in Nottinghamshire. We have funding to deliver this programme for the next 6 months working 30 hours per week across 4 days. We hope to be able to secure more funding to deliver this programme next year but it is too early to be able to confirm the future position of this programme. Your role will mainly involve: • Engaging young people, vulnerable adults and their families (with particular reference to those from disadvantaged communities) with an innovative, practical and fun outdoor educational programme • Ensure quality and best practice during all programme activities • Deliver nationally recognised qualifications to young people attending programmes • To teach and deliver environmental activities enthusiastically and provide inspirational leadership • Assisting with management of equipment and resources maintaining all health and safety requirements and guidelines for proper equipment use • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with key stakeholders • Making sure that the voice and influence of young people is promoted within the programme and that young people play an active part in programme development About You You will be an experienced and passionate Environmental Education Officer looking for an opportunity to deliver inspiring and exciting environmental and outdoor education. You will need an understanding of safeguarding and if you have experience of working with disadvantaged young people this would be an advantage. However, we are happy to support your development in this role. Due to the logistics of this role, it would be preferred that you will have and a full, clean mini-bus license (D1 category) as well as a valid First Aid certificate. However, if not we can support you in obtaining these. You will have relevant experience of delivery within an outdoor and environmental education setting as well as specific experience of face-to-face work with young people in an environmental education setting. If you have previously had experience of operating outdoor and environmental award schemes this would be highly advantageous. Experience of running outdoor and environmental education projects for a variety of groups especially challenging young people from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities would be fantastic so you are able to quickly and effectively start delivering our programme. We are incredibly well respected in the provision of outdoor and environmental education and are constantly working to secure additional funding to deliver programmes we are both exceptionally proud of but also confident make a positive impact on the lives of the children, young people and adults we work with. Whilst we cannot make any assurance, we would like to hope there will be an opportunity to continue working with us beyond the initial 6 months contract term. This post is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check (paid for by YMCA) and registration with the DBS Update Service.
