Do you have a passion for working with people with learning disabilities and Neurodiversity?

Have you ever thought about how visiting/ staying in an acute hospital setting can be someone with a learning disability or someone who is Neurodiverse?

A great opportunity has arisen within University Hospitals Dorset (UHD) for a Specialist Learning Disability, Neurodiversity and MCA Practitioner(Band 7) to join the team for apermanent appointment. This is a second post holder and sits within the UHD safeguarding team.

The role will be across all sites - Poole Hospital, Bournemouth Hospital and Christchurch Hospital to meet the needs of the service .

It is an opportunity to support UHD staff operationally and strategically to improve access and reduce health inequalities for those with a learning disability, autistic people and people who are neurodiverse. This is through training, data analysis, audit as well as networking and creating links to prioritise care through the patient journey and ensure reasonable adjustments are made to deliver high quality and equitable care for all.

Every day will be different.

This is offered as a full time post but 30 hours could be considered.

This role requires NMC, AHP or Registered Social Care worker registration.

Base Location: Cross site working across all sites

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work within our Safeguarding team as a visible and operational specialist practitioner, improving the quality of care and experience received by people (16 plus) who have a learning disability and/or neurodivergence.

Provide advice in the assessment of the needs of people in our care with regard to the Equality Act (2010), Mental Capacity Act (2005), safeguarding, best interest decisions and deprivation of liberties assessment (DOLS).

Ensure appropriate and timely reasonable adjustments are made to the care pathways for individuals who are identified as vulnerable adults/children and/or complex people with a learning disability or neurodivergence.

Act as an expert resource to others, providing information to junior staff, multidisciplinary team members, patients, relatives/ carers.

Develop effective and collaborative relationships with healthcare and multi-agency colleagues to promote that people who use our services.

mileage reimbursement. Travel from the postholder's home to the new work base will be considered a normal

Person specification


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse, AHP or Registered Social Care worker
* Relevant Master’s Degree or working towards or equivalent demonstrable experience and knowledge
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Training in line with current post.


Experience

* Minimum of 3 years post-registration experience, working with people with learning disabilities and other neurodiversity’s.
* Experience of working within the health and social care arena to support the Transforming Care Agenda
* Development of polices
* Development of Easy Read patient Information


Personal Attributes

* Energy and enthusiasm to make a difference to our patient’s journey
* Act as a champion for research for the potential to improve quality and customer care, seeking new ideas and methods to improve health care


Skills

* Strong organisational skills – able to organise own workload in a changing environment
* Good standard of IT skills to include Microsoft office products and risk reporting systems
* Experience of using patient record systems
* Ability to extract performance insights from complex data sets.
