Following its opening in 2019, the Peninsula Heart Clinic is an independently operated cardiology centre in partnership with University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. Treatment at the Peninsula Heart Clinic is delivered through a state-of-the-art cardiac cath lab, 5-bed recovery, 5-chair radial lounge, 3 ensuite bedrooms, and extensive outpatient facilities.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will assist medical staff in the Cardiac Catheter Lab with diagnostic and interventional procedures, including angiograms, PCI, pacing, and EPS. Duties include scrub and circulating roles, with appropriate PPE during procedures.

You will promote and maintain high standards of nursing care, meeting patients' needs before and after procedures. The successful candidate will be an RGN with at least 2 years' cardiology experience, ILS trained, and familiar with cardiac emergencies and post-procedure complications.

Job Summary

Assist cardiologists as a second operator during diagnostic investigations and procedures in the cardiac catheterisation lab, coordinating services within the lab and associated day unit.


Requirements & Responsibilities


Clinical

* Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care programs.
* Record vital signs and report deterioration.
* Recognise life-threatening arrhythmias and summon help.
* Perform and interpret ECGs.
* Perform venepuncture and cannulation.
* ILStrained.
* Scrub for procedures including catheterisation, pacemaker implantation, and PCI.
* Supervise and teach junior staff.
* Lead the team if required.
* Assist with patient transfer to NHS hospitals if needed.
* Prepare the lab for procedures.
* Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
* Interpret clinical observations and respond appropriately.
* Assist with manual handling and patient transfer.
* Ensure patient dignity and deliver high-quality care.


Managerial

* Lead care management and delivery.
* Share expertise with the multidisciplinary team.
* Ensure high standards of care.
* Follow NMC Code of Conduct.
* Act as a role model.
* Maintain professional practice and stay updated with developments.
* Participate in research and audit.
* Ensure accurate documentation.


Educational

* Participate in induction and training programs.
* Engage in ongoing professional development.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* RN (General) or HCPC registered ODP
* 2+ years post-registration in a Catheter Lab
* Intermediate Life Support
* Venepuncture and cannulation
* Recent practice development evidence


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This role requires a DBS check due to the nature of the work involving vulnerable populations.

Salary: £30,869 to £46,310 per year (Band 5/6 depending on experience)
