INTERNAL VACANCY

This vacancy is available as a secondment opportunity. Candidates must seek permission from their current line manager before applying for a secondment.

Public Health is recruiting a Health Improvement Officer to support their Joint Strategic Needs Assessment portfolio, working as part of the Public Health Directorate.

This is a fixed-term secondment for 1 year. You should seek your manager's approval before applying.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with experience in public health within a local authority setting to help meet local and national priorities.

The successful candidate will support senior officers in identifying needs, appraising evidence, and working on initiatives to reduce health risks among residents.

You should be able to build strong partnership relationships, have project management experience, and be skilled in producing reports and presentations, with excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills.

The role offers support and opportunities for career development across other public health areas within the department, aligned with departmental objectives.

This post is suitable for job sharing.

If you are an internal candidate interested in applying as a secondment, please discuss with your current line manager before submitting your application.

Hybrid working arrangements are available. Your working arrangements will be determined based on role requirements and in collaboration with you during recruitment. Your contractual location will be the designated council office.

City of York Council is committed to safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable adults. The successful candidate will need to undertake an enhanced Criminal Record check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.

We offer a generous annual leave, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, health and wellbeing initiatives, and a comprehensive reward package. We promote flexible working, community engagement, volunteer activities, and continuous learning and development. We also provide discounts, rewards, and savings.

For more information or an informal discussion, contact Anita Dobson, Nurse Consultant in Public Health, at Anita.Dobson@york.gov.uk.

Closing date: 29 June 2025 at 12 midnight
