Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust are offering a secondment for up to 18.75 hours per week as a Blood Sciences Service Manager, to work alongside the existing Manager to provide managerial and professional leadership to the Blood Sciences disciplines within the directorate of Pathology. This post is a secondment for 6 months with a potential to extend further to provide essential leadership to the department.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide day-to-day operational leadership and management of the Blood Sciences Department.
2. Ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care through excellent laboratory services across the Trust.
3. Be responsible for the department's budget and ensure services align with the financial plan.
4. Maintain accreditation and regulatory compliance (e.g., UKAS ISO 15189, CQC).
5. Be an integral member of the pathology management team, deputising for the general manager when required.
6. Possess extensive knowledge and recent experience in one of the Blood Sciences Disciplines.
7. Demonstrate excellent leadership skills.
8. Contribute successfully to UKAS accreditation standards.
9. Experience in service development and change management.
10. Develop and motivate staff effectively.
11. Maintain a well-organised, calm approach with the ability to adapt in a changing environment.
We are committed to staff development, supporting Biomedical Scientist and Support Worker apprenticeship schemes. Continuing education is encouraged, and CPD is actively supported. The department is approved for training by the IBMS / HCPC and is UKAS accredited.
As Service Lead, you will:
* Be responsible for developing and delivering a quality, effective Laboratory service.
* Work with the existing Blood Sciences Manager to develop service plans, challenge existing practices, and implement progressive solutions based on best practices.
* Ensure all income supporting service delivery is identified and budgets are realistic.
* Collaborate with the General Manager, clinicians, and other Trust services to ensure delivery plans are aligned and to identify opportunities for more efficient working.
* Support clinicians in redesigning services to improve clinical outcomes, reduce waiting times, and optimize resource use.
