An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Community Protection team and play a crucial role in our commitment to enhance community safety and reduce environmental crimes.
Our Community Protection Officers are at the forefront of safeguarding our neighbourhoods by addressing environmental crime and tackling antisocial behaviour in public spaces throughout the borough. The team is responsible for enforcing relevant antisocial behaviour and environmental protection legislation, to tackle the issues affecting those that live, work in, or visit Crawley.
Responsibilities
* Produce thorough reports and recommendations, and build high‑quality cases that may result in prosecution.
* Conduct intelligence‑led patrols across key borough locations, involving outdoor, foot‑based work in all weather conditions.
* Identify and implement effective solutions to environmental crime and broader community safety challenges, collaborating on innovative projects aimed at reducing crime and disorder.
* Shape strategies to combat crime and disorder through problem‑solving and crime prevention insights.
* Work in close partnership with other enforcement professionals and agencies to achieve joint objectives.
Qualifications
* Experienced enforcement or investigative professionals with a proven track record of customer service.
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Problem‑solving mindset and a passion for community safety and social justice.
Working Conditions
* Full current UK driving licence – required to drive vehicles as part of duties.
* Standard DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Scheme) and successful acceptance in the Sussex Police accreditation scheme.
* Use of a body‑worn video camera in line with policies.
* Lone working is a requirement of the job role.
* Work outside in all weather conditions.
* Work an average of 37 hours per week, including rostered evenings, weekends, and bank holidays with early starts and late finishes (365‑day service).
* Role involves a level of risk that must be managed by formal risk assessments and dynamic risk assessments at all times.
Training
* Four training days to be attended each year, with notice given and an alternative day off provided if necessary.
