Bridge Engineer - Liverpool
A respected civil and structural engineering consultancy is seeking a talented Bridge Engineer with @3–5 years experience to join their Liverpool office on a permanent basis.
About the Role
You’ll be part of a dynamic bridges and highways structures team delivering projects across the North West, supporting local authority frameworks as well as public and private sector clients. Our work covers a broad mix of assessments, designs, feasibility studies, and technical advisory commissions for major infrastructure programmes.
In this role, you’ll contribute to the successful delivery of highway and rail structure schemes, working closely with experienced colleagues through all stages of the project lifecycle — from initial concept and inspection through to detailed design and completion.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver and coordinate bridge and highway structure projects from concept through to completion
* Support design development, carrying out and reviewing calculations, drawings, and specifications in line with DMRB, Eurocodes, and other applicable standards
* Undertake bridge inspections, assessments, and feasibility studies for maintenance and improvement works
* Collaborate with clients, contractors, and other design teams to ensure effective project delivery
* Prepare technical reports, inspection findings, and contract documentation
* Contribute to project management activities, including planning, budgeting, and quality control
* Provide guidance and technical input to junior engineers within the team
Essential Requirements
* Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng/MEng or equivalent)
* Working towards Chartered status (ICE, IStructE, or equivalent)
* 3–5 years’ experience in bridge or highway structures engineering
* Sound understanding of UK bridge design standards (DMRB, Eurocodes, CS/BD series)
* Proven experience supporting local authority bridge frameworks or similar public-sector programmes
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills
* Proficiency in structural analysis and design tools (e.g., LUSAS, MIDAS, AutoCAD)
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Desirable
* Experience in bridge inspections and assessments under LA frameworks
* Familiarity with multidisciplinary collaboration (geotechnical, highways, drainage, rail interfaces)
* Understanding of NEC contracts and asset management principles
