Overview

An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join our team of Cardiac Physiologists. The applicant must be competent to perform the full range of cardiac diagnostic tests and have extensive experience in Cardiac rhythm management. The successful candidate will join our team of specialist physiologists leading device follow-up clinics and working independently across all areas of device implants.


Responsibilities

* Provide experienced and multi-skilled hands-on participation in the complete range of diagnostic cardiac investigations.
* Offer expert knowledge in the area of complex devices, undertake clinical interpretation of results and provide reports for own and others’ work.
* Provide specialised technical expertise to pacing and ICD implant and follow-up. Act as lead physiologist in device clinics, working independently within device implants and extractions.
* Competent within all areas of cardiac physiology including Cath lab and non-invasive testing.
* Participate in an on-call rota.
* Performs highly specialised diagnostic cardiac physiological testing on patients to aid clinical diagnosis without supervision.
* Independently interprets results and provides factual reports for highly specialised diagnostic cardiac investigations.
* Performs necessary adjustments to devices which directly affect patients’ clinical outcomes.
* Communicates effectively and advises clinical and non-clinical staff regarding outcomes of diagnostic investigations.
* Participates on a roster basis, including on-call, in all areas of technical cardiology.
* Undertakes supervision and training for clinical staff, trainee Cardiac physiologists and other allied health professionals.
* Assists the lead physiologist in implementing departmental strategies to ensure continuing development of patient-focused services.
* Assists the lead physiologist in monitoring and maintaining quality of services within the designated section.
* Ensures that individual own level of practice is kept up to date.
* Demonstrates active participation in clinical audit and R&D activities.
* Awareness of future implications for development of current cardiology services.
* Works across multiple areas with awareness of infection control and radiation safety requirements.
* Works within a multidisciplinary environment abiding by regulations regarding radiation and protection from radiation.
* Ensures all appropriate health and safety measures are taken when dealing with patients’ body fluids.


Qualifications

* Degree in Clinical Physiology, or BTEC/HTEC in MPPM or equivalent. BHRS accreditation is essential for the Band 7 post. The successful candidate will be expected to work towards the IBHRE qualification in device therapy.
* Voluntary Registration with AHCS is essential.
* Ability to work under pressure, priorities work effectively, and work well within a team, supporting the development of junior staff.
