Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance.
This position requires five days a week on site working.
Your future duties and responsibilities
In this role, you will provide hands‑on support for critical infrastructure within a major defence programme, ensuring systems remain stable, secure, and resilient.
You will work closely with senior engineers, resolving incidents, contributing to improvements, and supporting the ongoing evolution of the platform.
You’ll be trusted to take ownership of technical issues, apply structured problem‑solving, and work within a collaborative team delivering high‑quality outcomes.
You will also maintain core infrastructure technologies, support operational continuity, and participate in an on‑call rota to ensure business‑critical services remain available.
* Support & Troubleshoot: Provide support across VMware Cloud Foundation, Tanzu, VxRail, Data Domain, and key management systems
* Secure & Manage: Support privileged access and identity systems (BeyondTrust, KeyCloak)
* Administer & Maintain: Manage Windows Server environments, Hyper‑V, and routine system operations
* Monitor & Improve: Track performance, support resilience planning, and improve infrastructure stability
* Collaborate & Document: Work with senior engineers and maintain clear technical documentation
* Respond & Resolve: Participate in an on‑call rota for critical incident response
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
To succeed, you’ll bring hands‑on experience in infrastructure or support engineering, ideally in secure or defence environments.
* Experience working in Defence environments
* Proven background in infrastructure or support engineering roles
* Knowledge of VMware, Microsoft, or security technologies (certifications or willingness to achieve them)
* Familiarity with hyper‑converged infrastructure
* Strong communication, teamwork, and problem‑solving skills
Desirable:
* Awareness of cross‑domain tools (Tiger Traps, Garrison, OpsWat, NiFi)
* Exposure to DevOps tooling (GitLab, Kubernetes, FluxCD, Harbor)
* Experience with monitoring tools such as Elastic
