Position Overview
University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated, experienced MR trained Radiographer to lead the MR Service at Furness General Hospital. This role will be suitable for someone who has proven experience in managing a MRI service or for an experienced Radiographer looking for a new challenge.
The MR department at the FGH provides a wide range of MR imaging procedures including MSK, neurological, vascular and oncology. The Radiology department has Sectra PACS and RIS. The MRI department is equipped with two Siemens MRI scanners. We have introduced a full 7 day MRI service.
Suitable applicants must be patient centred, caring and professional with recent extensive MRI experience, an interest in teaching, clinical governance and radiation protection, and either a Diploma of the College of Radiographers or BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography and be registered with the HCPC.
Experience in CT is advantageous but not a requirement.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the lead specialist radiographer in MR
* Deputise for the lead radiographer in CT and support the service in their absence
* Manage the MR imaging department and lead a large team of specialist radiographers
* Produce high quality diagnostic investigations
* Write policies and examination protocols alongside the Clinical Lead Radiologist
* Set up and maintain quality assurance programmes
* Conduct risk assessment and uphold health and safety for staff and patients
* Ensure the technical and diagnostic quality of all examinations performed
* Organise the daily workload
* Supervise and train newly qualified or inexperienced radiographers
About the Facility
Furness General Hospital is on the doorstep to the Lake District, set in some of the most remarkable surroundings in the UK, facilitating an abundance of outdoor activities. There are many OFSTED "Good" and "Outstanding" Primary and Secondary schools nearby.
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, including full EDs, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
