Purpose of the Job
To plan and deliver mentoring and pastoral support for students to remove barriers to learning related to behaviour, motivation, aspirations, and academic achievements.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Manage a caseload of students at risk of not achieving their learning aims through targeted support.
2. Assess and prioritize referrals based on need.
3. Help students identify personal, community, family, and college-related issues affecting them.
4. Develop mentoring relationships to address identified needs.
5. Provide immediate support to students in crisis or with concerning behaviour, referring to appropriate internal or external agencies.
6. Support students' social and emotional development individually or in groups.
7. Assist students with personal difficulties and support their learning outside of teaching hours to ensure retention and achievement.
8. Support the tutorial process by helping students meet deadlines and targets in collaboration with tutors and staff.
9. Follow up on attendance and punctuality issues, providing support to enable students to return and continue their courses.
10. Coordinate with internal staff and external agencies for students with pastoral, health, or other needs.
11. Operate additional services like C-Card sign-up and promote health and wellbeing activities.
12. Assist with admissions, transition, enrolment, and induction processes.
13. Contribute to administrative tasks, reports, and statistics related to the service.
14. Participate in quality assurance activities and team meetings.
15. Ensure all students have access to appropriate support regardless of individual circumstances.
16. Comply with college policies and procedures.
17. Perform any other duties as assigned by the line manager.
