Location: 116 Westburn Road, Duration: Permanent, Full Time


Roles that require PVG Membership


Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £31,505 per annum / £17.31 per hour)


The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.


Job purpose/about the role


Undertake casework within a statutory social work function within Children’s Social Work; the role will form part of care leavers provision, supporting a looked after and aftercare pathway for Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Young people ;Undertaking formal need assessment within a statutory LAC context of Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Young People (UASYP ) who are placed in Aberdeen as part of the National Transfer Scheme (NTS) and those who arrive as part of adult asylum resettlement schemes who identify as children on their arrival in Aberdeen.


Operate in partnership with third sector and commissioned provision.


Undertake Age Assessment processes, including brief assessments and Merton Assessments within time frame and to standard required.


The role holder will improve outcomes for this group. Being committed to anti- discriminatory, culturally inclusive social work practice which seeks to create equity in an area of serviced where capacity of the workforce and resource provision needs to grow and develop, delivered in context of cultural sensitivities.


This post is for the role of social worker within Children's Social Work, care leaving team, the Youth Team. The main responsibilities within the role are the co production of Throughcare and Aftercare plans with care experienced young people. The ability to evidence the capacity to engage therapeutically and form supportive alliances with young people is essential to the role.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:


* BA/Dip SW, CQSW


* SSSC Registration


* PVG


* SSSC SW registration


The postholder is able to demonstrate:


* The ability to assess and balance risk and protective factors where there are safety concerns


* Articulate an understanding of the impact and manifestation of trauma on young people who have experienced the disruption of civil conflict


* Confidence in communication skills with service users where English not first Language


* Form and sustain therapeutically aligned relationships where need can be assessed within a context of formulation and implement effective social work interventions


* Able to prioritise tasks, manage own workload and be accountable


* Effective communicator, able to use language skills which reflect the components of Write Right About Me; excellent verbal and written skills; and build rapport with a range of individuals including children and families and other professionals


* Deal with complex issues in a sensitive and appropriate manner


* Use information management systems to maintain accurate management information and high quality data
