Salary: £55,000

About the Role:
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Chargehand professional to step into a busy production facility manufacturing building materials. This role will see you leading a team of engineers on shift, ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance and reliability of heavy plant and production machinery. You will play a key part in minimising downtime, driving safety standards and supporting continuous improvement across site.
Key Responsibilities:
* Supervising and coordinating day-to-day mechanical maintenance activities within a production environment
* Leading and supporting a team of engineers and contractors on shift
* Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive breakdown repairs
* Fault finding on production machinery, conveyors, motors, gearboxes, pumps and hydraulic systems
* Ensuring minimal disruption to production through efficient response to breakdowns
* Maintaining high health & safety standards and ensuring team compliance
* Supporting maintenance planning and scheduling
* Assisting with plant upgrades, installations and continuous improvement projects
* Completing maintenance documentation and reporting to management
What We're Looking For:
* Proven experience in a mechanical maintenance role within a production or manufacturing facility
* Strong mechanical bias with experience working on heavy plant or automated production equipment
* Previous supervisory or team leader experience
* Strong fault-finding and problem-solving capability
* Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings and rotating equipment
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
* Good understanding of health & safety regulations
* Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
* Proactive, hands-on approach with strong communication and leadership skills
