Proper Cornish is a well-established, proudly Cornish business based in Bodmin, specialising in high-quality pasties and pastry products enjoyed by customers across the UK. Founded in 1988, we employ around 300 colleagues and generate an annual turnover of approximately £37 million, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern food manufacturing.
As part of a growing group, we have recently joined IDAK and benefit from the backing of a major private equity organisation, providing long-term investment, stability and support.
We are entering an exciting phase of growth and are looking for a commercially minded Marketing Manager to help drive the next chapter of the Proper Cornish brand.
The Role
We’re looking for an experienced and ambitious Marketing Manager to lead brand and product marketing across Proper Cornish.
This is a hands‑on role responsible for increasing awareness of the Proper Cornish brand, supporting the commercial team to drive growth, and delivering marketing activity that strengthens customer relationships and creates demand across multiple channels.
You’ll lead a small team at the Bodmin site, consisting of a Marketing Assistant and a Senior Graphic Designer, while working closely with Sales, NPD and the leadership team to bring campaigns, launches and customer initiatives to life.
This role would suit someone who combines strategic thinking with strong executional delivery and enjoys working in a fast‑paced FMCG or food manufacturing environment.
Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week
Days of work: Monday to Friday
Location: Based at our Bodmin site, with flexibility for hybrid working
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience and qualifications
Bonus: Performance‑related bonus scheme
Key Responsibilities
Brand & Marketing Strategy
* Develop and deliver the overall marketing strategy for Proper Cornish
* Build awareness and visibility of the Proper Cornish brand across target sectors
* Ensure brand consistency across all channels and customer touchpoints
* Position Proper Cornish as an innovative market leader within savoury food‑to‑go
Commercial Support
* Partner closely with the commercial team to support customer growth and sales opportunities
* Create compelling sales and marketing materials to support pitches, presentations and launches
* Develop campaigns and activations that drive product awareness and customer engagement
* Support key account activity with tailored marketing initiatives
Product & Campaign Management
* Lead the planning and execution of product launches and seasonal campaigns
* Work collaboratively with NPD to bring new products to market effectivelyhref="#">li>
* Manage exhibitions, trade shows and industry events
* Oversee content creation across digital, print, social and trade communications
Digital & Content
* Manage website content, social media activity and email communications
* Drive engaging B2B content and storytelling that showcases products, innovation and heritage
* Monitor marketing performance and recommend improvements based on insight and data
Team Leadership
* Reporting into the UK Group Chief Commercial Officer, Chris Giddings, who is based in Bristol at our sister company Cakesmiths – Wholesale Cakes for Coffee Shops.
* Lead, mentor and develop the Marketing Assistant and Senior Graphic Designer
* Manage external agencies and suppliers where required
* Create a collaborative, creative and commercially focused marketing function
Budget & Performance
* Manage the marketing budget effectively
* Track campaign effectiveness and ROI
* Report on brand, campaign and commercial performance to leadership
What We’re Looking For
* Proven experience in a marketing role, ideally within FMCG, food manufacturing or foodservice
* Strong brand marketing and campaign management experience
* Commercially minded with the ability to support sales growth through marketing activity
* Experience managing, supporting and developing a small team
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
* Strong project management and organisational capability
* Comfortable balancing strategic planning with hands‑on delivery
* Experience across digital marketing, content and trade marketing
* Passion for food brands and customer and market trends
Desirable
* Experience within bakery, savoury, chilled or food‑to‑go categories
* Trade marketing or B2B foodservice experience
* Experience working with retail or hospitality customers
* Knowledge of packaging, POS and exhibition marketing
