Aviva is a market leader in the marine cargo market with a significant market share in the IUA cargo company market space, with underwriters in London both in Lloyd’s Gallery 3 and our London Market Office, but we are not content to rest on our laurels, and we aim to profitably grow this sector over the coming years.
Our appetite is broad & worldwide including North America. Whilst we are a company market operating in the Lloyd’s building, we have all the necessary surplus lines and other global licences to write business globally. This includes an EEA/EU and a Canadian company stamp for the relevant business. Due to this we have an exciting opportunity for a Cargo Underwriter to join our supportive and tenacious London team!
A bit about the job:
You will play a key supporting role in helping deliver the team’s business plan through the consideration of risk in relation to team and corporate strategy within the authority levels provided. Additionally, you will:
* Be a front-line underwriter trading in London from both the office and at the box in Lloyd’s.
* Take ownership of accounts written or assigned to provide excellent service to our brokers and customers.
* Demonstrate good judgement case by case across the portfolio and support the team in ensuring overall corporate and underwriting strategic targets are met.
* Build strong relationships with key brokers and customers.
* Work closely with the Marine Support Team to ensure administrative tasks are performed quickly and efficiently and to ensure the best possible service levels to customers.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
* A firm understanding of the fundamentals of cargo insurance and wider London Market/Lloyd’s trading environment but strong desire to build on these skills.
* Experience writing or working on cargo and stock throughput policies across common interests written in the London market.
* Some existing broker relationships but a strong communicator with the ability to build trust and rapport.
* Good stakeholder management through excellent time management and operational effectiveness.
* Strong written and numerical skills.
