Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Digital team at South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust for an experienced ICT Infrastructure Technician to support the implementation of a new Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. We are seeking a technically skilled, motivated and adaptable individual with strong infrastructure experience and excellent problem-solving, communication and organisational skills. This role will focus on supporting the deployment of critical infrastructure across multiple sites, working closely with a selected supplier and internal teams. The post holder will play a key role in the Trust's digital transformation journey, contributing to the successful delivery of the Fit for the Future Programme, which aims to modernise and future-proof our digital capabilities while ensuring the CAD system is resilient, secure, and aligned with operational and clinical priorities.

Main Responsibilities
The ICT Infrastructure Technician will be responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining infrastructure components, including servers, switches, and virtual environments, across two data centres and three operational contact centres. They will ensure the performance, security, scalability and resilience of the CAD infrastructure, support disaster recovery planning, data protection measures and system testing. The post holder will act as a 3rd line technical expert, providing hands-on support for incident resolution, infrastructure monitoring and ensuring compliance with NHS Digital standards. They will maintain accurate technical documentation, support asset management processes and work with the CAD Infrastructure & Integration Architect and wider IT teams to implement solutions with minimal disruption to business-as-usual services.
Job Description
This role is part of a high-priority programme with tight delivery timelines and complex interdependencies. The successful candidate will have substantial hands-on experience delivering infrastructure upgrades in large, multi-system environments with diverse stakeholders. You will provide expert support for the installation and configuration of servers, storage, network, and virtual infrastructure in line with CAD specifications. You will support testing and validation activities including SAT, UAT, and disaster recovery procedures, while managing incidents, monitoring system performance and maintaining accurate records. Additional responsibilities include asset management, ensuring compliance with NHS standards, contributing to technical documentation, and collaborating with internal and external teams to ensure successful implementation. Technologies involved include VMware, Hyper-V, RAID, and failover/fallback systems.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience is required, along with formal training or experience in networks, hosting environments and virtualised platforms. Advantageous qualifications include ITIL Foundation or higher, Microsoft or VMware certifications and vendor certifications such as CompTIA Network+.
Knowledge
Substantial ICT infrastructure support experience in large or healthcare organisations, with expertise in physical and virtual servers, Windows Server, VMware ESXi, and virtual host platforms. Experience in service desk operations, server optimisation, disaster recovery and stakeholder engagement is essential. Advantageous experience includes working with NHS systems or mission-critical platforms such as CAD.
Skills
Strong analytical and diagnostic skills, excellent communication and a customer-focused approach. Proficient in ITSM tools, effective time management and a commitment to continuous learning. Advantageous skills include supporting infrastructure test plans, mentoring junior staff, and delivering technical training or knowledge transfer sessions.

Physical & Special Requirements
* Regular use of VDU equipment.
* Standard NHS working hours, with occasional out-of-hours work for system upgrades or emergency support.
* Frequent sitting or standing in restricted positions when working within data centre and IT switch rooms.
* Moderate physical exertion to move IT equipment daily. Occasional travel to Trust sites may be necessary.

Essential Criteria
