Plantroom Assistant Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Salary: £28,365 per annum Hours: 40 per week, Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm About the Role We are looking for a proactive and safety‑focusedPlantroom Assistantto join our Hard FM Healthcare team at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. This is a key role supporting the safe operation, cleanliness, and compliance of71 plantroomsacross a large and complex hospital estate. You will play an essential part in ensuring our electrical, mechanical, ventilation, and heating systems remain safe, compliant, and well‑maintained. Working closely with the Health & Safety Manager and O&M Manager, you will carry out routine inspections, corrective actions, and health & safety checks to support the smooth running of 63 buildings across the site. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is organised, hands‑on, and committed to maintaining high standards in a healthcare environment. Key Responsibilities Carry out routine planned inspections across all plantrooms. Identify, report, and escalate risks or defects to senior management. Ensure plantrooms meet required standards for safety, cleanliness, and infection control. Conduct checks on lighting, emergency lighting, pipework, structural integrity, signage, first aid kits, and equipment storage. Verify that fire extinguishers and portable appliances are in date and compliant. Support waste management processes and remove waste to central collection points. Observe subcontractors working in plantrooms and report any concerns. Assist in maintaining COSHH and HSE documentation for each plantroom. Use PDA devices to close out reactive and maintenance tasks. What We’re Looking For Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Self‑motivated, organised, and able to adapt to changing priorities. Logical approach to problem‑solving. Ability to work well under pressure and meet SLAs. Confident working with people at all levels. A team player with a positive attitude. Awareness of Health & Safety and relevant legislation. Computer literate with good numerical skills. Desirable: Experience working in plantroom or Hard FM environments. Familiarity with healthcare estates. Experience using PDAs.
