Overview
Provide professional administrative support on a 24/7 shift basis within the Emergency Department, coordinating all stages of a patient’s journey from first attendance to discharge.
Key Responsibilities
* Facilitate patient flow and proactively support multi‑disciplinary teams (MDTs) in delivering optimal patient outcomes.
* Promote and support discharge planning from the point of ED attendance, ensuring compliance with the 4‑ and 12‑hour standards and avoiding unnecessary delays.
* Identify and assist in resolving barriers to discharge or flow, escalating issues in line with the Emergency Department Surge Plan.
* Support the Nurse in Charge (NIC) and operate independently with minimal supervision despite frequent interruptions.
* Maintain real‑time updates of clinical systems so that stakeholders have an accurate view of department status and ECA standards are met.
* Prepare an hourly shift report in collaboration with the ED NIC, documenting any issues, alerts, or breaches in performance during the shift.
* Participate in two‑hourly board rounds and the initial 07:45 team huddle with NICs, site coordinators, consultants, and, when required, on‑call managers and executives to keep all stakeholders informed.
