Role Purpose
As the Students’ Union President you will identify, develop, promote and participate in cross‑college student activities that meet national and college priorities. You will provide support and advocacy for learner welfare, manage proactive services, and foster positive attitudes and relationships across the college community.
Responsibilities
* Work with the Head of Student Participation and Careers and the Student Voice Coordinator to offer training and development for student and faculty lead representatives.
* Develop and manage students’ union‑sponsored clubs, societies and social activities.
* Represent the student body at strategic and advisory groups, including the Governing Body.
* Support recruitment and management of Students’ Union Officers and the Council.
* Act as Student Governor, attend Learner Forums, Students’ Union executive team meetings and student consultations when required.
* Maintain daily security of confidential records and resources.
* Liaise with external agencies to identify potential resources and funding for development activities and support services.
* Ensure college policies on Equality, Diversity and quality management are effectively implemented to meet internal and external standards.
* Implement and utilise all work systems, adhere to financial regulations and procedures, and provide data and statistics for college reports.
* Promote and distribute Students’ Union cards and identify other potential income sources.
* Liaise with college services to promote Students’ Union services and facilities, including online information.
Student Related Responsibilities
* Ensure the safety of any learner or apprentice you regularly interact with, working with the Safeguarding Team to share concerns promptly and accurately.
* Support college open days, exam‑season enrolment events and other required events.
Other Responsibilities
* Understand and adhere to health and safety policies and procedures as outlined for your role.
* Ensure compliance with Data Protection Regulations.
* Incorporate environmental sustainability into your actions, contributing to the college’s environmental strategy and net‑zero ambition.
Requirements
* Successful applicants will need an enhanced DBS check and will be subject to safer recruiting procedures.
* Knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection matters.
Salary and Benefits
* £26,570 per annum.
* 30 holiday days (222 hours) plus 8 bank holidays (59.2 hours) – this includes a discretionary Christmas closure period.
* Enhanced pension contributions scheme with SYPA – 18.6 %.
