Job Description
The Environment Agency is seeking a fixed‑term senior advisor (up to 2 years) to support the regulation of the energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries. The role focuses on the UK’s Net Zero strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance, protecting the environment and delivering sustainable energy outcomes.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance and training.
* Develop sectoral strategy and produce tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
* Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during emergencies.
* Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
Experience and Skills Required
* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, encouraging consideration of diversity issues.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, including experience in regulating energy, combustion or waste processing operations, and control measures for air emissions.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Proven teamwork skills, demonstrating cooperation to achieve common objectives.
Contract and Working Conditions
Fixed‑term contract, up to 2 years. Some travel to sites and stakeholder meetings is anticipated. Flexible working patterns are supported.
