Who are we?


The West Midlands Growth Company (WMGC) is the region's economic development delivery organisation.

From April 2026, we will lead the delivery of regionally commissioned economic development activity aligned to the West Midlands Growth Plan, working in partnership with the West Midlands Combined Authority and local authorities.

We are building a sharper, business-focused organisation that attracts investment, supports high-growth companies and drives measurable economic impact.

The Role


As our new PR & Communications Manager, you'll lead the development and delivery of innovative, insight‑driven B2B communications that engage audiences across the region's most dynamic sectors, including tech & digital, advanced manufacturing, creative industries, and professional services.

This is a highly visible role where you'll shape the narratives that position the West Midlands as the best place to do business, invest, and grow.


What You'll Be Doing

* Develop and deliver a high‑impact B2B communications strategy aligned to WMGC's mission and sector priorities.
* Segment audiences and build tailored approaches for SMEs, high‑growth clusters, and international investors.
* Produce compelling long‑form content including press releases, op‑eds, articles, case studies and multimedia stories.
* Drive a refreshed media relations strategy, cultivating strong relationships across trade, national and international press.
* Lead storytelling initiatives that generate proactive, high‑profile media moments that elevate the region's business reputation.
* Build and deliver a stakeholder engagement plan integrating partners into key events (e.g. MIPIM, UKREiiF) and major campaigns.
* Manage editorial and media partnerships, particularly in sector and real estate media.
* Oversee supplier relationships, including media monitoring, evaluation tools, sentiment tracking, and media databases.
* Provide detailed reporting against KPIs across earned, owned and shared channels.
* Collaborate closely with internal teams including marketing, investment, policy, partnerships and senior leadership.


What You'll Bring


Essential:

* Exceptional written communication skills, with proven experience crafting long‑form B2B content.
* Strong editorial judgement and ability to simplify complex sector insights into engaging narratives.
* Understanding of the media landscape, including trade, national and broadcast media.
* Experience delivering stakeholder communications and managing cross‑functional engagement.
* Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.
* Hands‑on experience producing content and managing day‑to‑day media relations.
* Creative thinking, adaptability, and a willingness to experiment with new formats and channels.
* A passion for place‑making and a strong commitment to the growth of the West Midlands.
* Professional qualification or relevant degree, or equivalent experience.

Desirable:

* Experience within investment promotion, inward investment, commercial real estate, or economic development.
* Experience working with the public sector or knowledge of the West Midlands' economic ecosystem.
* Experience in multi‑channel campaigns across international markets.
* Supplier and procurement experience, particularly related to communications tools.
* Knowledge of email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Zoho Campaigns).
* Continuous professional development in communications, PR or related fields.
