Azure Migration Architect | 6 Month Contract | (Outside IR35) | Hybrid, Edinburgh| Starting ASAP
Day Rate: £DOE
About the Role:
Harvey Nash's Pub Sec client is looking for an Azure Migration Architect. You will be responsible for the discovery, planning, preparing, and executing Application migrations from on-premises to both Azure and a co-location datacentre as part of a large Data Centre Exit Programme. You will own and coordinate the population of any associated migration collateral (questionnaires, runbooks) required as part of the preparation to the point they are signed off and can be used as a migration toolset.
This role ensures that all Applications are migrated safely, data integrity is maintained, and every Application workload is correctly configured including but limited to tagging, security posture, and backup policies.
Post migration the role will be part of Early Life Support, ensuring any issues are remediated and included in the formal handover of the Application to Run
Essential Skills & Experience:
Application and Server Discovery
* Review the Application and server estate to validate versions, configurations, and compatibility with Azure.
* Consult vendors for any technical dependency or incompatibility with Azure and prepare options appraisals, allowing informed decisions to be taken.
* Identify dependencies such as interoperable servers.
* Ready template migration collateral, including Migration Approach, Application Questionnaire, Application Runbooks
* With wider team baseline scope and target location of Application migrations
Migration Planning and Design
* Support migration Workload and Wave planning with Project Managers, Vendors, Run Team, and Application Owners.
* Produce detailed migration runbooks for in scope Applications.
Migration Execution
* Support pre-migration Test Plan execution.
* Ensure all technical elements of a migration event are completed, in support of 'Go' calls with stakeholders. (e.g. Runbook signed off)
* Monitor health of the application 'sync' process into the target platform.
* Own cutover of the Application via the tasks detailed in the Runbook.
* Post-cutover lead and perform 'smoke' testing of the Application and own remediation of defects.
* Support Vendor and Business Owner UAT and own remediation of defects.
* Support Early Life Support and support remediation of defects.
* Investigate performance issues discovered during testing and support corrective actions.
Collaboration and Support
* Collaborate closely with the Vendors and Application Owners to assess operational impacts and dependencies.
* Coordinate with Migration Engineers to validate infrastructure readiness and tooling configuration.
* Collaborate with Test Managers to validate any pre- (baseline testing) and post-migration defects.
* Consult with Application Owners to understand operational requirements and confirm post-migration success.
* Engage with network and security teams to resolve Application access or connectivity issues.
Required Technical Skills and Experience
* Previous involvement in large-scale migration or datacentre exit programmes.
* Strong experience of Public (Azure) and Private (Co-lo) platforms.
* Understanding of networking fundamentals relevant to a Hybrid Cloud environment.
* Experience and understanding of a typical legacy enterprise environment.
* Firsthand experience with migration tools and techniques. (e.g. Azure Site Recovery) and Application migrations
* Ability to diagnose and remediate complex Application and associated issues during high-pressure migration events.
* Comfortable working within structured change control processes
* Ability to consult with Vendors technical teams to support pre- and post-migration issues.
Desirable Skills
* Ability to clearly articulate any knowledge transfer or informal training of the new platforms to the Run Teams.
