Role Purpose
Scottish Borders Council is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced civil engineer to serve as an Engineering Design Team Leader within its Engineering team. The successful candidate will lead and manage a small design team in delivering the Council’s engineering construction projects.
Applicants should be Chartered or Incorporated Engineers with an appropriate Engineering Institution or willing to obtain such membership within an agreed timeframe upon appointment.
The candidate must demonstrate significant management experience in the design and supervision of construction projects, sound knowledge of CDM and other Health and Safety Regulations, and the ability to lead, motivate, and inspire staff to deliver effective, customer-focused services.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the delivery of engineering construction projects through design, procurement, construction, and handover stages, ensuring standards are met.
* Lead the team to provide high-quality, customer-focused, value-for-money engineering design and construction services, responsive to the complex demands of a local authority.
* Collaborate with the wider Roads Service and Infrastructure and Environment Department to support departmental and local objectives.
* Assist in developing long-term strategic plans, including annual business/work plans and KPIs for approval by the Chief Officer Roads.
* Research, prepare, and present proposals, reports, and presentations to councils, project boards, committees, staff, communities, and the public.
* Hold a full current driving license.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements
* Degree level education in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience and training.
* Chartered or Incorporated Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Highways and Transportation, or similar, or willingness to obtain within the agreed timeframe.
* Valid driving license and access to a vehicle.
