Job Summary
Eden Valley Hospice is a forward-thinking, compassionate provider of specialist palliative and end-of-life care. We are currently offering an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join our dedicated team in our 10-bed inpatient unit based in Carlisle. Our vision is to improve care for people in our communities who are dying or have conditions which will shorten their lives. We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, person-centred care through our inpatient unit, Living Well and Outreach services, patient and family support, and Jigsaw, our dedicated children’s hospice. Collaboration is at the heart of our approach, and we work closely with healthcare providers across the region.
Shift Information
* Day Shift: 7.30am – 8.00pm
* Night Shift: 7.30pm – 8.00am

Please note: this role is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which will be arranged and paid for by the hospice.

Pay & Benefits
* Salary: £31,753 to £33,864 per year (FTE based on 37.5 hours)

Responsibilities
As part of a multidisciplinary team, plan, co-ordinate, deliver and evaluate person-centred and evidence-based palliative care to patients, families and carers. Contribute to the hospice vision of excellence in palliative care and act as a role model to support other team members to ensure high standards of care. Key Responsibilities include being an accountable professional, promoting health, assessing needs and planning care, providing and evaluating care, leading and managing nursing care, improving safety and quality of care, and coordinating care.
Being an Accountable Professional
* Adhere to The NMC Code and fulfil registration requirements.
* Apply legal, regulatory and governance requirements, policies and ethical frameworks.
* Critically analyse and apply research findings to inform practice.
* Communicate effectively with the MDT, patients and families.
* Maintain professional relationships and complete accurate records.
* Engage in reflection and clinical supervision.
Other Responsibilities
* Assess needs at end of life, plan individualised nursing care, monitor and re-evaluate plans with patients and families.
* Assess capacity and obtain consent in line with laws on mental capacity.
* Safeguard vulnerable individuals and maintain infection prevention practices.
* Safe administration and optimisation of medicines; plan safe discharge or transfer.
* Lead nursing care for groups, supervise students, and promote learning.
* Utilise digital technologies to share information within teams and organisations.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Essential: Registered nurse at degree level, or relevant experience
* Desirable: Palliative care qualification; willingness to undertake further qualifications
Experience
* Essential: Working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team; assessing patient needs and planning, coordinating and evaluating care
* Desirable: Specialist palliative care experience; post-registration experience
Skills and Knowledge
* Excellent communication, with ability to build relationships at all levels
* Resilience in bereavement care; ability to work under pressure
* Planning, prioritising and delegation skills; commitment to ongoing development
* Up-to-date knowledge of care practices
Other
* Flexible approach; physical ability to work 12-hour shifts; ability to uphold hospice values of professionalism, caring, respect and dignity
