Overview
Cygnet Kenney House is a women‑only hospital located in Oldham. It operates three wards: Billington Ward, a 12‑bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU); Baldock Ward, a 16‑bed acute service; and Harben Ward, a 16‑bed high‑support inpatient rehabilitation and recovery service. The service provides a safe and secure care pathway for women with mental health needs and has been opened in partnership with the NHS to offer treatment closer to home.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide routine medical and psychiatric support including initial clerking and mental‑state examination of newly admitted patients.
- Carry out assessment, appropriate investigation, diagnosis and treatment of inpatients under consultant supervision.
- Maintain good communication with ward nursing staff, mental‑health professionals and other agencies as required.
- Participate in weekly ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings, including CPD, tribunal hearings and Section 117 meetings.
- Maintain full records of medical and psychiatric assessments and interventions.
- Prepare discharge summaries in line with company policies and guidelines.
- Attend mandatory training such as BLS, ILS, break‑away training/PMVA training, moving and transferring, infection control and H&S.
- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and staff, maintaining appropriate reports.
- Participate in the duty‑doctor on‑call rota.

CESR Programme
Our CESR programme supports you to develop the skills required to progress to consultant level. You will rotate within wards/services to gain valuable experience across various subspecialties, receive regular supervision and support with MRCPsych exams.
Qualifications
- Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified.
- Experienced and knowledgeable in psychiatry.
- Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity.
- A first‑rate communicator who can interview, assess, treat patients and write clear, comprehensive medical notes.
- Committed to continued professional development.
- Able to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
- A member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent.
