This vacancy is for a Trainee Dental Nurse based in Chorley.
As an Apprentice Dental Nurse, you will assist dentists in various dental care treatments and processes.
Purpose of the job:
Provide clinical support to dentists, hygienists, and patients under supervision, assist with reception or clerical duties as required, and perform other tasks as reasonably requested by the practice owners, David and Rashmi Hickey.
* Assist dentists, hygienists, or therapists by providing chairside support relevant to your competence level under supervision, following GDC guidelines for trainee dental nurses.
* Keep a log of your structured induction and ongoing compliance training records.
* Work towards a nationally recognized qualification leading to GDC registration.
* Follow all practice policies and procedures.
* Establish and maintain productive working relationships within the dental team.
* Liaise with the practice manager regarding administration, pay, and conditions.
* Assist with reception duties and perform clerical tasks if needed.
* Ensure your own health and safety, as well as that of others, is maintained.
Key tasks to be carried out under supervision:
* Develop competence in chairside support procedures.
* Handle and apply dental materials across various procedures.
* Use dental instruments and equipment appropriately.
* Prepare and decontaminate treatment rooms.
* Decontaminate dental devices following vaccination and equipment maintenance protocols.
* Manage waste disposal according to practice policies.
* Operate practice computer and X-ray systems.
* Complete laboratory request forms and maintain records of lab work.
* Coordinate with reception for patient appointments.
* Escort patients, confirm medical histories, and communicate any changes to the dentist or hygienist.
* Support and reassure patients, especially in emergencies.
* Provide advice to patients.
* Perform chaperoning duties for clinical GDC registrants.
* Follow professional ethical guidelines, including confidentiality.
* Handle telephone calls, mail, and emails.
* Meet and greet patients and carers.
* Manage appointment scheduling and recall systems.
* Securely file patient records and correspondence.
* Attend training sessions, including induction, external courses, and annual emergency training.
* Assist with clerical and administrative duties as required.
* Report equipment issues.
* Raise concerns about practice operations or performance.
* Attend practice meetings and perform other reasonable tasks as directed.
Training to be provided:
Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing.
Functional Skills Level 2 in maths and English, if not already held.
Safeguarding and First Aid training.
