Advancing Practice Lead, Blood, Inflammation and Cancer Directorate
A new and exciting job opportunity is available within the Blood, Inflammation and Cancer Directorate for an exceptional and forward‑thinking Lead Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) to provide strategic, professional and educational leadership to our expanding ACP workforce. This new senior role will oversee a team of 12 ACPs, including 9 trainees, ensuring they are supported, supervised and developed to deliver safe, high‑quality and innovative care across our specialist services. As Lead ACP, you will champion advanced practice, drive clinical excellence, and cultivate a culture of learning, collaboration and professional growth.
As the Lead ACP, you will be responsible for the professional leadership, operational oversight and educational development of the ACP team within the directorate. You will work closely with clinical, operational and educational leaders to shape the future of advanced practice, ensuring robust governance, high standards of clinical care and a clear pathway for ACP progression.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Job responsibilities
* The post holder will provide compassionate and supportive leadership and direction to all the advanced practice team (qualified and trainees) within the Blood, Inflammation and Cancer Directorate, and be part of the leadership team in growing and developing the service within the wider department; living and leading by the Trust values and cultures to nurture and enable a high performing team.
* The post holder will be a clinical expert within the field of advanced practice. An experienced ACP, who can work at a high level autonomously within all areas. It is expected that the post holder will work comfortably across the four advanced practice pillars and be able to perform all extended clinical skills to a high level and be a passionate and skilled teacher in order to educate the team.
* The post holder has managerial responsibility for the team of Qualified and Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners, overseeing the development of trainees and the progression of the team as a whole.
* To take direct responsibility for the management of patients within own caseload providing autonomous clinical care Practice with confidence and competence within NMC/HCPC Guidelines.
* Provide shop‑floor supervision/development of junior members of the multidisciplinary team.
* To play an active role in the development/improvement and audit of processes that facilitate and improve patient flow including integrated care pathways and clinical guidelines. Be an advocate for quality improvement and excellent patient experience.
* Maintain own clinical development by attending and delivering local and regional education as well as personal CPD activities relevant to Advanced Clinical Practice.
* Actively implement effective systems and processes for infection control management and relevant audit within their clinical area.
* When the need arises take charge of areas within the Blood, Inflammation and Cancer Directorate.
Person Specification
Knowledge & Experience
* Extensive demonstrable experience at enhanced, advanced or consultant practice level.
* Proven knowledge of local, regional and national advancements in enhanced and advanced level practice.
* Demonstrable experience in leading teams with a compassionate, values based leadership approach in an NHS organisation or equivalent.
Qualifications
* Masters Degree in Advanced Practice or equivalent (as defined by Trust AP policy)
* Statutory Professional Registration with autonomous practice.
* Teaching Qualification.
* Compassionate approach to leadership.
* Expert communication skills in managing highly complex, sensitive or contentious information, and supporting people in making complex decisions.
* Able to make judgements involving highly complex facts where there may be conflicting information/opinion.
