Our client, a dynamic and fast-growing civil contractor are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Commercial Manager to join their Glasgow-based team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role within a forward-thinking construction organisation known for delivering high-quality groundworks projects across Scotland. The Role As Commercial Manager, you will lead the commercial function across a varied project portfolio. You’ll be responsible for ensuring robust financial management, maximising profitability, managing risk, and supporting the wider operational team in delivering successful projects for clients. You will oversee all aspects of commercial governance, from tendering and contract negotiation through to final account, providing strategic guidance and hands-on commercial leadership. Key Responsibilities * Lead and manage the commercial team to ensure consistent, high-quality commercial practice across all projects. * Provide strategic commercial insight to support business growth and operational performance. * Oversee cost planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. * Drive the procurement process, including supplier negotiation and contract management. * Manage contract administration, change control, valuations, and variations. * Ensure claims, disputes, and risk management activities are handled efficiently and professionally. * Build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders. * Contribute to tender strategies and review bid submissions. * Support continuous improvement in commercial processes and systems. About You * Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor operating at a senior level within the construction, or civil and groundworks industry. * Strong commercial acumen with a track record of successfully managing project finances and commercial operations. * Excellent understanding of construction contracts (NEC, JCT, or similar). * Confident communicator with strong negotiation and stakeholder-management skills. * Able to work in a fast-paced, growth-focused business environment. * Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related field (preferred). * Leadership experience with the ability to mentor and develop commercial teams.
