Position Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and dedicated School Caretaker / facilities Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the school premises are clean, safe, and well-maintained. This role is vital in supporting a conducive learning environment for students and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintenance:
Supervise the Housekeeper to ensure they perform daily cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and waste disposal.
* Clean and disinfect classrooms, restrooms, hallways, offices, and other school areas.
* Ensure outdoor areas, such as playgrounds and parking lots, are clean and free of hazards.
To conduct repairs and maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs, fixing leaks, and addressing basic plumbing issues, and decorating.
2. Safety and Security:
Open and close the school premises, ensuring all doors and windows are secure.
Monitor and report any safety hazards, maintenance issues, or security concerns to the appropriate authorities.
Assist in emergency situations, including evacuations and drills.
3. Event Support:
Set up and take down equipment and furniture for school events, meetings, and activities.
Assist with the logistics and organisation of school functions as needed.
4. Inventory and Supplies:
Monitor and manage cleaning supplies and maintenance equipment inventory.
Order and restock supplies as necessary, ensuring availability for ongoing operations.
5. Groundskeeping:
Perform basic groundskeeping duties, such as lawn mowing, snow removal, and garden maintenance.
Ensure pathways are clear and safe for students, staff, and visitors.
6. Collaboration:
Work closely with school staff, teachers, and administration to support the overall school operations.
Communicate effectively with colleagues and report any issues promptly.
Qualifications:
* GCSE or equivalent.
-IOSH / NEBOSH desirable.
* Previous experience in a caretaking, janitorial, or maintenance role within an educational environment preferred.
* Health & Safety knowledge and experience in an educational setting to include daily/weekly checks.
* Knowledge of cleaning procedures and maintenance tasks, such as carpentry/joinery and painting.
* Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and carrying heavy objects.
* Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment.
* Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends as required.
Working Conditions:
* Full-time position, 40 hours per week.
* Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
* Exposure to cleaning chemicals and outdoor weather conditions.
