Heron Lea Residential is a welcoming 13-bed care home that provides specialist support for adults aged 65+ living with Dementia. We pride ourselves on delivering person-centred care in a warm and supportive environment where residents are treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.
In our most recent inspection (July 2025), we were rated "Good" overall by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), achieving "Good" in all five domains: Safe, Caring, Responsive, Effective, and Well-Led. We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Senior Carer to join our team at Heron Lea Residential. This role is ideal for someone with proven care experience who is ready to take on additional responsibilities in leading, supporting, and empowering colleagues to deliver outstanding person-centred care.
About the Role
As a Senior Carer, you will coordinate and support the care team to ensure residents receive safe, effective, and compassionate care. You will take an active role in administering medication, supporting care planning, and acting as a mentor to other care staff. You will also work closely with senior management and healthcare professionals to ensure residents' needs are met to the highest standards.
Responsibilities
* Administer medications safely in line with organisational policies and practices.
* Act as a support mechanism for care staff during shifts, liaising with the Senior Management team as needed.
* Complete care planning and assessments for existing residents.
* Coordinate the care team during your shift to ensure residents receive timely care and support.
* Support the team in completing routine health monitoring (e.g., NEWS2 observations, weight checks).
* Identify and escalate concerns such as falls, injuries, deterioration, infection, or death of a resident.
* Adhere consistently to Heron Lea Residential's policies, procedures, and uniform policy.
* Act as a role model to others, always projecting a professional image.
* Champion areas such as Infection Prevention and Control, Dementia, Safeguarding, Health & Safety, Falls & Mobility, Nutrition & Hydration, and Medication Management.
* Participate in audits, service improvement initiatives, and professional meetings.
* Support the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager, and other professionals in delivering individualised resident care.
* Demonstrate professional accountability and practice in line with the Code of Conduct for support workers.
Skills
* Proven experience in senior care or a similar role within a care home setting.
* Strong leadership abilities with prior supervising experience preferred.
* Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and team members.
* Ability to develop comprehensive care plans that meet individual needs.
* Proficient IT skills for maintaining records and documentation.
* A valid driving licence is advantageous for transporting residents when necessary.

Qualifications & Training
* Minimum Level 2 qualification in Health & Social Care (essential).
* Level 3 qualification is desirable; if not held, the candidate must be willing to work towards completion as part of the role.
* Care Certificate must be completed within 12 weeks of start date.
* Online training modules (per induction booklet) must be completed within 12 weeks of start date.
Experience
* Previous experience as a Senior Carer is desirable but not essential – full training and support will be provided.
* A minimum of 1 years working experience as a Care Worker or similar role is essential.

Additional Requirements
* The candidate must have the right to live and work in the UK (sponsorship is not available for this role).
