Job Title: Policy Improvement and Risk Manager

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced professional to lead corporate performance and risk management initiatives within the council. This role will ensure that governance processes are robust, risks are effectively managed, and strategic objectives are delivered in line with agreed standards.
Key Responsibilities
Corporate Performance Management
Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of performance data across the council.
Ensure alignment with agreed corporate objectives and delivery of the Council Plan.
Coordinate public performance reporting twice a year and develop reports to track progress against long-term vision.
Risk Management
Manage the council’s approach to strategic risk, including maintaining and reviewing the Strategic Risk Register.
Identify and assess risks associated with corporate performance and governance processes.
Provide assurance that risk management practices meet required standards.
Corporate Governance
Ensure compliance with the Code of Corporate Governance and related frameworks.
Support the development of the Annual Governance Statement.
Maintain corporate assurance processes and audit readiness.
Leadership
Manage and support a small team (2 direct reports) to deliver performance and risk objectives.
Foster collaboration across departments to ensure accurate and timely reporting. Essential Skills & Experience
Strong background in corporate performance management and data analysis.
Experience in risk management and understanding of governance frameworks.
Knowledge of corporate assurance processes and audit standards.
Ability to lead and develop a team effectively.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Public sector experience is highly desirable. Desirable

Familiarity with council governance documents such as the Council Plan and Governance Statement
