Job Purpose
The position is TEMPORARY, employment will run from September 2025 to February 2026 (to be confirmed)
British Sugar is the leading Sugar supplier in the UK and one of the most efficient Sugar processors in the world. Partnering with over 2,400 growers to produce home grown sugar, supplying around 50% of the UK’s sugar market, we are proud to be building and supporting a Beet Sugar industry that works for Britain.
Sampling process streams across a large manufacturing site, carrying out both routine and ad-hoc analysis to support factory operations
Core Accountabilities
Candidates will be expected to perform the following:
1. Safe collection of manufacturing samples from the factory.
2. Updating of laboratory sample inventory.
3. Carry out specific sample preparation and analysis methods according to instruction in a safe manner.
4. Accurate and organised recording of results.
5. Flagging and discussion of issues and observations.
6. Maintaining a safe, clean and organised work environment to ensure smooth running.
7. Engage and cooperate with other team members to deliver on a dynamic work schedule.
8. Travel with team members to other British Sugar sites
Skills, Knowledge & Competencies
9. Good communication and timekeeping skills
10. Ability to carry out simple mathematical calculations.
11. Strong safety awareness
12. Basic IT knowledge
13. Previous experience working in the laboratory environment.
14. Scientific qualifications at GCSE/GCE level.
15. Applicants will need to be safe, responsible and reliable with personal drive and motivation. You will need a positive and flexible attitude and to take a pride in your work and environment.
16. Attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions precisely are essential, together with the observational presence to raise emerging issues or unusual results.
