Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist

Acute Stroke & General Medicine
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary

We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join our established Acute Sector Adult Speech and Language Therapy Team based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

This 33 hour per week role involves responsibility for working across two areas within the service:

1) Working within the acute stroke multi-disciplinary team (MDT) at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, covering the North-East of Scotland. You will be part of a small, highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy team within this MDT.
2) Working as part of the wider acute Speech and Language Therapy team at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, supporting patients within acute medical wards.

You will be working within a very experienced team with excellent opportunities for collaborative working, quality improvement initiatives and training opportunities. You will be responsible for delivering high quality care for patients with a range of acquired speech, language, communication and/or dysphagia difficulties.
As a specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will demonstrate a depth and breadth of clinical knowledge, skills and experience of working with adults in an acute care setting. We work closely with our SLT colleagues in stroke rehabilitation services and community SLT services to support patient transition out of hospital.
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary is a large teaching hospital. You will be part of the Speech and Language Therapy service which covers a wide range of acute hospital patient care, including neurosciences, ENT, head and neck cancer, and acute and critical care. Shared values to promote optimal patient rehabilitation and recovery, an active contribution to collaborative working and to service development initiatives is important to the team.

Within our small, supportive SLT team there are established pathways for peer support, mentoring and supervision, and a commitment to providing CPD opportunities.
