We are looking to recruit 2 Full‑time and 1 Part‑time Youth Engagement Officers to work as part of the Youth Engagement provision (YEP), to deliver the Cornwall Youth Hub project in collaboration with the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and Cornwall Council. Youth Engagement Officers will be required to proactively identify and develop additional opportunities for collaborative initiatives between the business sector and education. The role is centred on empowering young people aged 16‑24 who are economically inactive, unemployed or not in education, employment or training, to enable their integration into mainstream employment and training opportunities. The Youth Engagement Officer role involves working within our Youth Engagement Provision to support these individuals into employment. The role will have a specific focus on working with our Youth Hubs to provide a range of services to our target audience, with the ultimate objective of supporting these individuals into employment, training or educational opportunities. The Youth Engagement Officers will recruit and support young people facing barriers to employment or engagement in training, playing a key role in providing intensive and wrap‑around support to individuals guiding them towards mainstream provision and employment. Officers will create personalised action plans with participants to help them overcome their barriers and advance their entry into the workforce. Working closely with employers and skills sectors, the role‑holder will identify employment opportunities which align with the needs and aspirations of participants and the local labour market. They will possess current knowledge of 15‑25 yr developments, encompassing skills and work‑related learning and Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) education. Combined with good knowledge of labour‑market information, they will inform the creation of tailored employability programmes, actively involving participants in the process. The employability programme will lead to quality, structured opportunities including work‑experience placements and employer taster sessions, which will be designed to progress participants into suitable employment or training pathways. The role‑holder will be responsible for thorough follow‑up work with participants and employers to address any ongoing support needs, ensuring sustained success. The role‑holder needs to be committed to facilitating employment, education and training opportunities for people for whom health conditions, special educational needs (SEND) and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) issues present a barrier to employment. The role‑holder needs to have extensive experience working with young people aged 16‑24, especially in group settings as well as demonstrable experience of working as part of a team to bring success. You will work closely with the wider Employment and Enterprise team and other services within Cornwall Council Education to ensure work is complementary, coordinated and not duplicated. These positions are initially for 6 months fixed‑term period, however, we hope to be in a position to extend this subject to successful funding requests. This position will be subject to a enhanced criminal record disclosure check. Working pattern: Monday to Friday 37 hours per week. Cornwall Council’s ambition is to be an employer of choice, a high‑performing Council and a learning organisation. We commit to providing a reward and benefits package to attract, motivate and reward our employees. We offer a range of flexible working options to our staff. This helps provide our employees with a greater work/life balance whilst still ensuring that service needs are met.
