The Opportunity
We are looking for a commercially minded Financial Controller to take ownership of financial control and reporting, while playing a key role in improving performance and supporting decision-making across a fast-growing eCommerce business.
This is a broad, high-impact role with clear scope to grow — working closely with the COO (CFO), influencing commercial insight, and helping shape how finance supports the business as it scales, including international expansion.
About Us
We are Jane Clayton and Company, a profitable and fast-growing online interiors retailer offering over 70,000 luxury products—fabrics, wallpapers, and bespoke soft furnishings—from leading designer brands including Farrow & Ball, Mulberry, Ralph Lauren, and Sanderson.
We are a team of 40 based in modern offices in Paulton, around half an hour south of Bath and Bristol. We have recently reached several exciting milestones:
* Launched into the US market
* Opened our off-price Outlet channel
* Launched the official global brand store for Morris & Co
The Role
Reporting to the COO (CFO), you will take ownership of financial control, reporting and compliance, while supporting the development of commercial insight across the business.
You will work closely with the wider finance and operations teams, including the Operational Finance team. The role is hands-on, with clear scope to build and develop a team as the business grows.
As the company scales, there is an opportunity to progress into a broader senior finance leadership role (e.g. FD), with scope to help shape the finance function over time.
What You’ll Be Doing
Financial Control & Reporting
* Own and deliver monthly management accounts (accurate, timely, insightful)
* Full ownership of month-end close and reporting cycle
* Lead the year-end process, including statutory reporting and coordination with external accountants
* Oversee VAT, statutory and regulatory filings
* Maintain and improve robust financial processes and internal controls, including for any international entities as the business expands
Commercial Finance & Business Performance
* Work closely with the leadership team to drive insights across the business
* Partner with commercial and operational teams on cross-functional initiatives
* Provide analysis to influence pricing and margin decisions
* Continually improve reporting to support better decision making
* Introduce and embed planning and FP&A processes across the business
* Support the financial aspects of international expansion, including pricing, margin and cost-to-serve in new markets
Financial Operations
* Partner with operational finance, including supplier payments, reconciliations, and credit control
* Manage cash flow forecasting, FX exposure and banking relationships
* Oversee the payroll and pension processes
Financial Systems
* Continuously improve the adoption of NetSuite and associated systems
What We’re Looking For
* Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) or equivalent experience
* Strong commercial acumen and an analytical mindset
* Excellent Excel skills and attention to detail
* Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite an advantage)
* Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
* Hands-on SME experience is desirable
* Experience operating in a multi-entity or international environment is advantageous
* You may currently be Head of Finance, Senior Finance Manager, Finance Manager, or Group Accountant looking for your next challenge
What We Offer
* Competitive salary with up to 10% bi-annual bonus
* 33 days’ holiday (including bank holidays)
* Hybrid working – working from home on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (optional)
* Flexitime options to support work–life balance
* Excellent benefits including:
* Company pension
* Life insurance
* Income protection
* Employee discount on products
* A collaborative, supportive culture where your work makes a real impact and your contribution is valued and rewarded
