Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant Medical Oncologist with a specialist interest in Melanoma, plus a second tumour site (flexible), to join our progressive and supportive oncology team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a well‑established service recognised for innovation, collaboration, and excellence in patient care.
You will lead care for patients with melanoma, participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, and work closely with immunotherapy, dermatology, and maxillofacial colleagues. The role also includes contributing to the Acute Oncology Service, teaching junior doctors, and engaging in clinical trials and research.
Our Oncology Department delivers high‑quality inpatient and outpatient services across Musgrove Park Hospital and Yeovil St Margaret's Hospice. Supported by the Beacon Centre and Yeovil Haematology and Oncology Day Unit, the service includes systemic anti‑cancer therapies, radiotherapy, and an active SABR programme. The team comprises 13 consultants, clinical fellows, specialty doctors, registrars, and experienced CNSs.

Main duties of the job
We are a centre for early access melanoma treatments and host regional advisory services and forums such as SWAG.
* Responsible for patients with melanoma and a second tumour type (to be agreed)
* Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to service development
* Work closely with the Immunotherapy team, CNS teams, and dermatology/maxillofacial colleagues
* Contribute to the Acute Oncology Service and teaching/supervision of junior doctors
* Engage in clinical research and trials
* Participate in a 1:10 on‑call rota (weekends and evenings covered with time off in lieu)

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration with licence to practice
* Specialist Registration status with GMC via CCT/CESR in Medical Oncology (or within 6 months of interview date)
* Medical Degree
* Royal College Qualification or equivalent
Experience
* Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
* Commitment to clinical excellence and governance
* Experience in melanoma and systemic anti‑cancer therapy
* Experience in a second tumour site of interest (e.g. Urology, lung, breast)
* Active participation in clinical research and trials
* Experience of e‑prescribing systems Involvement in teaching and training at undergraduate/postgraduate levels
