Role description
As an Associate Ecologist, you will join our team of over 50 ecologists with 30+ years of experience. You will contribute to projects ranging from urban and greenfield residential development to highways, rail schemes, power stations, and more across the UK, Europe, and beyond.
Role accountabilities
* Lead and manage the delivery of ecological aspects of projects, ensuring time, budget, and SHEQ targets are met.
* Provide technical advice and drive client relationships to exceed expectations.
* Oversee ecological surveys, analysis of field results, and prepare preliminary ecological appraisals (PEAs), biodiversity strategies, and other deliverables.
* Compile licence applications, develop mitigation and monitoring strategies, and liaise with statutory authorities.
* Manage and train team members, deliver performance management and staff training.
* Design research projects and contribute to best‑practice development in survey standards.
Qualifications & experience
* Excellent commercial and project management skills for a range of project sizes.
* Detailed knowledge of ecological principles, biodiversity metrics, EcIA legislation, policy and guidance.
* In‑depth knowledge of particular plant or animal groups and appropriate field survey skills.
* Proven track record in writing and delivering PEAs, BNG assessments, EcIAs and Ecology Chapters for Environmental Statements.
* Experience in written Habitat Regulation Assessments (HRAs) and bid production.
* Experience leading a team.
* Survey and/or mitigation/conservation licenses held; leadership in biosecurity, health and safety protocols.
* Relevant degree, ideally with further education qualification.
* Chartered Environmentalist/Ecologist (or demonstrably approaching Chartered Ecologist). Full member of CIEEM.
* Ability to travel when necessary.
