This role supports the delivery of small, reactive and planned maintenance works as part of a long-term asset management framework. Works are varied and include general civils, minor building repairs, structures maintenance and environmental works. Due to BAM Framework logistics and operational requirements for the Penrith delivery hub, operatives must be based locally. Business Unit You will be part of a fast-paced rail maintenance and asset management environment delivering essential works across the rail network. The business unit delivers a wide variety of remedial, repair and maintenance schemes under long-term framework agreements. Projects typically include: Bridge, tunnel and structure repairs Station and building fabric maintenance Culverts and drainage Embankments, slope stabilisation and earthworks Flood and weather-related damage repairs Signage, fencing, handrails and minor building works General civils and planned preventative maintenance activities The Role As a Skilled Civils Operative, you will work within site-based teams to deliver planned and reactive maintenance activities. You will ensure all works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with site instructions under the direction of the Site Foreman. Day-to-day responsibilities include: Carrying out designated civils and building maintenance tasks Understanding and working in line with risk assessments and method statements Following safe systems of work and maintaining a safe, tidy work environment Completing works to programme and to the required quality standards Using plant, tools and equipment safely and completing pre-use checks Maximising productivity and use of working time Signing onto all necessary briefings, permits and documentation Communicating effectively with the Site Supervisor and site management Reporting near misses, safety concerns and improvement opportunities Attending all safety briefings, inductions and forums Carrying out additional assigned tasks where authorised by line managers Requirements To thrive in this role, you will have experience working as a Civils Operative, Tradesperson or Skilled Labourer within a rail or civil engineering environment. Essential: PTS Relevant experience in rail and civils infrastructure works Full UK driving license Desirable: COSS qualification Skilled Civils trade background (bricklaying, groundwork, minor structures, building fabric repairs) Experience working on Network Rail maintenance frameworks The Company You will be joining a reputable and established contractor operating nationally in rail, civils and engineering markets.
