Playground and Project Manager - Milton Keynes
Post: Permanent, Full Time. Location: Milton Keynes. Salary: £30,000 - £40,000. Employer: Glendale Managed Services (the green services division of Alston Investments Ltd).
Responsibilities
* Work under the direction of the Contract Manager and supervise a team of skilled and un-skilled staff (Fix-It team) delivering rapid response and planned maintenance services to all areas of the Borough, including Play Areas, Landscape and Highways maintenance functions.
* Support the strategic development of the service and its alignment with MKCC priorities; ensure safe and efficient service delivery to project plans and client satisfaction.
* Manage work, labour, equipment and materials from inception to completion in accordance with project requirements.
* Contribute to the effective planning and delivery of the operational Play and Project teams within the contract area.
* Maintain and build relationships with existing clients through regular meetings, recording outcomes and actions.
* Recruit, train and motivate staff within the operating area; assist in budgeting and financial reporting for Play and Project teams.
* Support tendering opportunities, seek out new clients and support pricing of work and contracts.
* Resolve operational difficulties beyond day-to-day practice and seek expert advice as needed.
* liaise with clients to agree programmes of work, value of work, payment dates and invoicing.
* Plan projects with Client teams to arrange for works using in-house teams or contractors; align Fix-it MK Service with Council strategies (Play:MK policy, Parks and Open Spaces Strategy).
* Organise inspection and maintenance programmes, planned work schedules, and ensure rapid response to identified problems.
* Procure and manage materials and resources; deliver community-based projects with Parish Councils, volunteers, the probation service and Youth Justice Service as required.
* Maintain effective communications with Neighbourhood Management Team and key officers; provide status updates and stakeholder feedback.
* Collect and maintain data related to inspections and works, detailing maintenance requirements and cost estimates; provide maintenance solutions and costing details.
* Supervise staff through regular appraisals and meetings; manage play area inspections and maintenance to ensure safety and high play value.
* Investigate enquiries for damage, wear and tear, litter and other issues; ensure safe handling within one working day and programme unresolved issues for timely resolution.
Health and Safety
* Act in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and Glendale Health and Safety Policy; follow Codes of Practice and Quality Management Systems.
* Complete necessary induction and health and safety modules prior to commencement of works; ensure compliance with current legislation and safety standards; safe use of plant, machinery and materials.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
* Demonstrable track record as a manager of Playground maintenance and construction with operational awareness in the support services sector; minimum 5 years experience.
Qualifications
* Nationally recognised academic horticultural/construction qualification at NVQ Level 3 or equivalent (examples: National Certificate, NVQ Level 3; Advanced National Certificate; National Diploma; Higher National Certificate/Diploma; Foundation Degree; RPII certificate in playground inspection/management).
* A full, clean driving licence is essential.
Conditions
* Title: Play and Project Manager; Reporting to: Contract Manager; Grade: Manager.
